Henry County, Georgia Chief Judge Brian J. Amero ordered Fulton County ballots unsealed in a hearing on Friday. The Covid-cautious Connecticut House of Representatives voted Tuesday night to extend Gov. Ned Lamont’s Covid emergency powers, through July 20. However, the legislature placed limits on the renewed powers. “The full legislature has to approve the extension — not the committee of 10” key lawmakers, Ritter said. “The second check and balance is if there’s a particular executive order that the legislative leaders don’t like, they can veto it. So it’s a very different mechanism for the next nine, 10 months. We feel pretty good where we are with COVID, so we’re more flexible now than maybe we were a year ago.” – The State Legislature’s move may seem too compromising at this late stage, but it may assert more authority than the Michigan State Legislature has over Governor Gretchen Whitmer. Ned Lamont may also have unwittingly empowered potential Republican rivals for Governorship of the State, as they might be lifted by broad voter opposition to Covid-19 restrictions, viewed by many as ‘Intolerable Acts’.
