The Chinese military said they forced a US warship out of the disputed South China Sea on Monday. This was after the Biden administration warned that an attack on the Philippines might activate a mutual defense treaty. The People’s Liberation Army said it sent ships and planes after the destroyer U.S.S. Benfold, which had entered waters claimed by Beijing around the Paracel Islands.
U.S. Navy officers warned Congress that Navy leadership is failing to “promote or advance surface ship warfighting in a meaningful way.” According to the officers, who were interviewed for a congressional report, the top brass are putting too much time and energy on diversity training.
